Celebrating 90 Years of Chrysler

Celebrating 90 Years of Chrysler

Since the 1920's, Chrysler has created a rich history in the car industry, creating such names as the Chrysler Six, Imperial, Airflow, Town & Country, 300 and New Yorker.

This year, in 2015, Chrysler celebrated its 90th anniversary from the day that Walter P. Chrysler first founded the brand. Walter P. Chrysler's dream was to innovate a line of luxurious and well-engineered vehicles that were still at an affordable price for customers. His vision was to create vehicles that looked much more expensive than they really were, which for the most part is what many customers are looking for, aka affordable luxury.

The Chrysler Six

The first ever Chrysler branded vehicle on the market was the Chrysler six. It was priced at a mere $1,565 and boasted an L-head 6-cylinder engine with four wheel hydraulic brakes which was unlike any other vehicle in its time. Many other features, such as styling, made this vehicle stand out among the rest and appeal to many customers.

The 1930's

The 1930's brought the great depression and with it brought growing technology in the automotive industry. This is when Floating Power was introduced into Chrysler vehicles to lessen vibrations from the engine to the frame.

Not only did Chrysler invent Floating Power but, in the 1930's, Chrysler also introduced the Chrysler Airflow which was inspired by the Army Air Corps Planes that you would see flying above in the 20's. During this time, the team started putting vehicles through wind tunnel testing and achieved a more aerodynamically shaped vehicle that was more shaped like a teardrop with an engine that was pushed back further than other vehicles of the time.

Thunderbolt

The 1940's brought the Chrysler Thunderbolt. Wood-bodied Chrysler Town & Country sedans and Town & Country convertibles started to attract the attention from celebrities all over.

In the 1950's the HEMI was born as well as the first muscle car. In the 60's we saw new versions of the 300 that was created in the 50's. The 70's began the muscle car era which brought the Cordoba. Chrysler had to return to its more basic styles in the 80's after a bit of a financial crisis. It was in the 80's that we started to see the ever famous "woody-wagon", the Chrysler LeBaron Town & Country. In the 90's we got the first minivan from the brand as well as several new innovations and models.

Daimler and Chrysler merged in the 2000's and the company continued to improve on its technologies.
In the 2010's, Chrysler had recovered from Bankruptcy and is now the Fiat Chrysler Automobile brand.
Today, the company still continues to bring out new models, technologies and advancements to add to their long line of affordable luxury vehicles.
